Winter is coming and with it the cold, dark days of New York City. But that doesn't mean you have to hole up in your apartment all winter! There are plenty of great places to cozy up and spend some time this winter. In this blog post, we'll take a look at 9 of the best spots in NYC to spend the winter months. If you're looking for a cozy spot to eat in New York City this winter, look no further than Salinas. This Chelsea tapas restaurant and bar features Basque-inflected small plates and roaring flames, making it the perfect place to warm up on a cold night. With fresh flowers, a wall of cascading water, and a retractable glass roof, Salinas is sure to make you feel at home this winter.
Waverly Inn
Let's face it, if you're looking for a cozy spot to eat in New York City this winter, you can't go wrong with the Waverly Inn. This institution in Greenwich Village is set in a carriage house that dates back to 1844 and served as a tavern, bordello and teahouse before it became a restaurant. Vanity Fair’s Graydon Carter turned it into a celeb favorite adding to the clubby, intimate, Graydon Carter-backed hotspot on a West Village side street. It is a must to add to your list. It also offers a cozy, fireplace-accented setting for dining on spendy comfort fares, like truffled mac and cheese. The food is served in curved red booths nestled into two attached townhouses. With low ceilings, plenty of fireplaces, uneven wood floors, and a hidden garden with an ivy-covered brick wall, the Waverly Inn is a charming New York institution. Menu favorites include chicken potpie, Dover sole, and decadent truffled mac and cheese.
30 Water St
The Dead Rabbit is expanding within the next few months, all while holding on to the intimate downtown vibe that made it famous. The drinks and the design take a cue from history—think exposed wood beams, framed photos, porcelain teacups, sawdust floors, and an ambitious cocktail menu (try the Pillow Fight, made with gingerbread rooibos tea and black currant liqueur). The food is no slouch either, with dishes like lamb shepherd’s pie and a corned beef sandwich.
47 Bond St
Il Buco is one of the best Italian restaurants in Manhattan, and it's a classic New York City establishment that used to be an antique store nearly 25 years ago. The rustic kitchen on Bond Street serves some of the best Italian food in the city, and it's definitely worth a visit. The wine list is also impressive, with bottles housed in the restaurant's 200-year-old underground wine cellar which is rumored to be haunted by Edgar Allan Poe, a former resident. Homemade pastas are a must-try.
