1. Gourmet Haven: The Upper East Side boasts an array of international cuisine and high-end shopping, especially along the Avenues. From flagship stores on Madison Avenue to charming coffee shops, the culinary and retail scene is a definite pro.
2. Parks Galore: With Central Park as your front yard and the often-overlooked Carl Schurz Park, the neighborhood is a haven for green spaces. For park lovers like me, this is a dream come true.
3. Neighborhood Feel With Historic Charm: The residential feel with townhouses and single-family residences gives the Upper East Side a unique neighborhood vibe. Perfect for those seeking a community atmosphere.
4. Real Estate Variety: From renovated one-bedroom apartments to luxurious townhouses, the real estate scene is diverse. Watch the video to see a sneak peek into a $16 million five-bedroom beauty on Fifth Avenue and other properties.
5. Cost of Living: Surprisingly, the Upper East Side offers more affordable living compared to downtown areas. It's a bonus for those looking for a great location without breaking the bank.
1. Limited Nightlife: If you're a night owl, the Upper East Side might not be your go-to place for clubbing and dancing. While there are options like Irish pubs, it's not known for its vibrant nightlife.
2. Transportation Considerations: Depending on your daily commute, transportation could be a con. The Q on Second Avenue has eased some struggles, but it's something to factor in, especially if you work in Midtown or downtown.
3. Co-op Challenges: Co-op apartments, common in the area, come with their own set of challenges, including financial requirements. It's essential to navigate these intricacies when considering a move. Learn more about coops by clicking here to watch a video or by checking out our buying guide by clicking here.
4. Old World Charm: While some adore the pre-war charm of the apartments, others might find the older constructions with limited modern amenities a drawback.
5. Far From Downtown: If you have to commute downtown often whether for work or your preference of leisure then it might be best to search elsewhere (especially if you are visiting West Village and the neighborhoods on the west side of Manhattan).
